Bourse Descartes: Studies

The Institut français des Pays-Bas offers several grants for students enrolled in Dutch higher education who wish to pursue their master’s degree in France.

 

The study grant Descartes can help you finance your mobility! It includes:

- A monthly allowance: About 700€/month for 10 months

- Coverage of tuition fees in the higher education establishment (up to a maximum of €5,000) and social security coverage

- Various advantages related to the French government's scholarship status (housing assistance, student life, etc.)

 

Criteria of eligibility:

-Being enrolled in a Dutch higher education institution and having at least a Dutch bachelor's degree

- All nationalities are eligible (except students of French nationality)

- All disciplines are concerned: basic and exact sciences; technical disciplines and engineering sciences; law, economics, social sciences and humanities, international trade, management; French language and literature, history, art history, etc...

Bourse Descartes: research internships for PhD students

The Institut français des Pays-Bas offers several two to three months internship grants for PhD students enrolled in Dutch higher education who which to realise an internship in a research laboratory in France.

 

The research internship grant Descartes can help you finance your mobility! It includes:

- A monthly allowance: About 600€/month for 2 or 3 months

- Coverage of tuition fees and social security coverage

- Various advantages related to the French government's scholarship status (housing assistance, student life, etc.)

 

Criteria of eligibility:

- Being enrolled in a Dutch higher education institution as a PhD student & wishing to carry out a research internship in a French research laboratory.

- All nationalities are eligible (except students of French nationality)

- All disciplines are concerned: basic and exact sciences; technical disciplines and engineering sciences; law, economics, social sciences and humanities, international trade, management; French language and literature, history, art history, etc...

PHC Van Gogh

Van Gogh is the Franco-Dutch Hubert Curien partnership. It has been implemented in France by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the French Ministry of National Education and the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research. In the Netherlands, it was implemented by the NUFFIC with the support of the Dutch Ministry OCW (ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap).

The objective of this program is to develop the scientific and technological exchanges of excellence between laboratories of both countries, by encouraging new cooperation and the participation of young researchers and PhD students.

All scientific fields, including social sciences, are concerned by this program. A specific attention will be given to projects whose subject is linked to themes present in the framework-program for research and innovation Horizon 2020.

Budget envelopes are set between 1500€ and 3200€ per team.

Descartes-Huygens Prize 

This Prize has been awarded since 1995 by the French and the Dutch governments thanks to the cooperation of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Research and the Dutch Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences. Each year two Prize winners are selected: the Netherlands selects the French winner and France selects the Dutch winner.

The Prize aims to support the international career of researchers and the development of partnerships. The French Prize, a grant of EUR 23,000, allows a Dutch laureate to do, within the framework of one or several cooperation projects, one or several stays in one or several French research laboratories within the 2019 year. The cumulative duration of the research stay(s) cannot exceed 3 months.

As of 2017, the Descartes-Huygens Prize is open to researchers in all disciplines (human and social sciences included).
